The Year of Magical Thinking
My Rating-5/5
Anyone who has ever lost a loved one to death would know the level of numbness that takes over the person and how in the succeeding days the person becomes just a shell of the person he used to be and starts performing the required tasks mechanically similar to a robot.
This book encapsulates the author's journey from the moment she loses her husband and the grief that follows. We are shown the writer going through various stages of grief:denial, sadness, anger, acceptance and letting go.
Death is the ultimate truth.According to many religious scriptures, our time of death has been decided before our birth. After the death of a loved one,the person often tries to retrace his/her last days with him/her and to some extent thinks that he could have prevented this tragedy from happening. This is known as survivor's guilt.
This book also emphasizes how a person's life can change in an instant for better or for worse. The period after a tragic event seems so long that even an hour seems too long to pass.
This was my first book by this author. The depth and pain with which this book has been written makes me pretty sure that this author faced insurmountable level of pain in her life as only a person who has faced so much in his/her life can write such a book as such books are mostly an outflow of the writer's innermost thoughts.
