In Search of Happiness
My Review
-4/5
This is
such a short and engaging book that I read in a matter of a few hours. This
book traces the journey of Namrata and Deepak as the main protagonists of the
story.
These two
characters found themselves surrounded by loneliness despite having their loved
ones around them. This was mainly because the parents of both these characters
are highly selfish and narcissistic by nature and are unable to think about
anything other than themselves.
The author has done a fantastic job in
painting the picture of the lower-middle-class strata of Indian society. Due to
belonging to this stratum of society, Namrata and Deepak despite having mutual
affection towards each other are unable to do anything substantial in that
regard and remain busy taking care of their respective parents and fulfilling
the basic needs of life.
The author
has also subtly included many life lessons within the realm of his storyline. The
author has also intricately described how sometimes life teaches us harsh
lessons at a very young age and we are required to mature at a tender age.
This book
would be suitable for anybody looking to read a novella and having even a
little information about the composition of the Indian society. In the absence
of such knowledge, this book can also prove to be a culture shock as the author
has intricately described the lower-middle-class society where women are
considered as an object of sexual desire above anything else and drinking of
massive amounts of alcohol is a regular affair.
