The Handmaid's Tale
This dystopian world which has been so intricately developed
by Magaret Atwood is haunting to the core. It is a type of world comprising of everything
that nightmares are made of.
This book presents the
story of a parallel world where women’s bodies are only used for producing children.
This story depicts women as slaves with no rights or freedom whatsoever.
I was smitten by the
character of Aunt Lydia as she was the only sane person in this whole chaotic scenario.
She was the only hope of solace for the extremely deprived girls who were just treated
as objects for the sake of a child.
Although I loved this
book to the core, I was pretty underwhelmed by its sequel ‘ The Testaments' as
a lot of details mentioned in that book were not required. According to me, its
sequel should not have been written as it has tarnished the reputation of this masterpiece
to some extent. Moreover, the ending of ‘The Handmaid's Tale had properly tired
up all the loose ends.
This book will be suitable for readers of dystopian fiction as
it will entertain you while familiarising you with a horrifying world that you never
would want to step into even in your worst nightmares.
I loved the first book myself!
