One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

 My Rating-5/5

This is one of the banned books among others that I had the privilege of reading. This book portrays the atmosphere of a mental asylum in the 18th century.

The story is told from the perspective of a patient who pretends to be mute and deaf. The story chronicles how the arrival of a ruthless nurse named 'Ratched 'wrecks havoc within the asylum.

This book will seriously makes you question the difference between sanity and insanity as many of the steps taken by the nurse are so harrowing and disturbing that you start to hate her character.

This book is really triggering and the person's mental health must be kept in mind while reading this book. The character of nurse 'Ratched ' has become so famous that even a Netflix show has also been made by her name portraying her antics.

Given that this book portrays the atmosphere surrounding mental health of such an early era,you might find some ideas to be orthodox and outdated specially as a myriad of efforts are being taken to create an awareness regarding mental health in today's day and age.

I am of the view that any book which is banned is a book worth reading as it must contain such powerful and different concepts which will open different horizons and expand our understanding.

  1. Such an interesting review ✨ I had read about the movie adaptation of this book, starring Jack Nicholson! I didn’t know that the original book was banned.
