An Unusual Boy
5 out of 5 stars for me.
This is my first
Fiona Higgins book, and I adored it. The journey of an eleven-year-old child
who has been diagnosed as 'neurodiverse' by doctors is chronicled in this book.
Jack, an eleven-year-old
boy, is the family's third child. He is unlike his brothers and peers, and he
finds it difficult to communicate with them at times.
This book left me in
tears since it was terrible to read about the bullying and conditions that Jack
had to deal with, which no little child should have to deal with.
Though I think that
Jack was also incorrect in his assessment of his role in the events that
followed, we must not forget that having been labelled neurodiverse by the
authorities had a negative impact on his life.
This book holds special importance in today’s
world when society is becoming more and more aware of mental health and mental
health is starting to be considered at par with physical health.
I plan on reading other books by this author
as well as his writing style is marvellous and the pace of the story is deeply
engaging.
